Cindy Rafeld, Secretary
After a career in Marketing, Cindy has spent the majority of her last 25 years raising her three children and actively volunteering in the community. Her three kids attended Catholic schools - St Rose School, Jesuit, and St Francis - and during that time, Cindy volunteered extensively at all three schools as well as at Sutter Hospital where she worked in the surgery recovery area. Cindy’s an active member of the St Joseph Marello Parish, where she is Eucharistic Minister. She is looking forward to contributing as secretary to the Retreat, Reflect, Renew Ministry. As Cindy has negotiated the twists and turns of motherhood, and experienced the aging of her own parents, she has come more and more to realize the role of faith in her everyday life, and is looking to expand her faith journey by connecting and growing with others. Cindy resides in Granite Bay with her husband and her beloved yellow lab, Ruby.

Rita Peterson spent 35 years in educational publishing as a sales director and marketing manager, and field editor. She has long been an active member of her church, serving as the Small Groups Team Leader, Stephen Leader and Stephen Minister, Continuing Education Minister, Women’s Retreat Coordinator, and choir member. She also volunteers for the local Rocklin Friends of the Library and Placer Adult Literacy Service. She lives with her husband, Roger, in Rocklin, and has two adult children and three young grandchildren.
Rita’s previous fast-paced work life combined with her busy family life made her purposely seek out more reflective and meditative time with God. She desired more faith-sharing with others who were also looking to build their spiritual lives. In her search, she discovered Retreat Reflect Renew and has been a devoted follower of this ministry for several years. She wants to encourage others to be a part of this beautiful journey and to grow in their faith, life-balance, and self-awareness.
Sr. Diana Metzler, RSM, MASG, Advisory Board Member
Diana Francis has been a Sister of Mercy for thirty-nine years. In addition to various board experiences and religious community committees and appointments, she has also been a catechist, teacher, and high school administrator prior to her becoming a spiritual guide/director. She had obtained her Master’s degree in Spiritual Guidance from Sofia University in Palo Alto in 2015. Her published thesis, Will to Be: The Pilgrimage to Elderhood through Spiritual Group Work, stems from her study and research into the connection and enhancement of spirituality upon optimal aging.
She has been trained not only as a spiritual director for one-on-one guidance, but also as a group facilitator. She has worked with dream groups, monthly spiritual guidance groups, Oasis Retreat days, and longer retreat experiences. Sr. Diana’s dream work approach is modeled after the Jungian approach and theory for groups used by the late dream work guru Rev. Jeremy Taylor, an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister who has himself blended the values of spirituality with a social consciousness and a Jungian perspective. Sr. Diana is currently a part of the retreat and spiritual direction staff at Mercy Center Auburn located in Northern California.
