How to Pray

New to Prayer?

Wondering how to lean on God during a

life transition or difficult time?

Begin Here

What is prayer supposed to look and feel like? My mind keeps getting distracted by all my worries. Am I doing it wrong? How can I feel close to God? If any of these questions have crossed your mind or heart, you are not alone. And it can be especially frustrating during a stressful or transitional time in life when you really want to sense God’s strength and comfort.

God is Mystery, and each of our relationships to that Mystery is unique. You may be frustrated because you are comparing yourself to other people who seem to have a close relationship with God. Be gentle with yourself. We will all experience the Divine differently.

It is helpful to look at prayer as a relationship. It takes time to build a relationship of trust with people, and it is the same with God. Give yourself time and find ways to be intentional, and slowly you can find prayer practices that help give you a sense that you are not alone.

Finding time for silence and solitude is a helpful way to grow closer to God. If you have a hard time being silent by yourself, try this quiet meditation. Retreat, Reflect, Renew Founder Christine Jurisich will gently invite you to share five minutes of peaceful silence.
