Who is God for you?
Who is God for you—and how has your life shaped the answer?
Our understanding of God is formed over a lifetime. The people who introduced us to faith, the beliefs we learned, and our experiences of love, joy, loss, disappointment, beauty, and change can all influence how we imagine God and how we experience the Divine today.
Explore Your Story with God
The Journey Within invites you to explore your faith story and discover how God’s presence may have changed throughout your life experiences. In this retreat, you are invited to reflect on your image and experience of God, explore the biblical understanding of a God of mercy and steadfast love, and become more attentive to the many ways the Divine may be present within you and in the ordinary experiences of your life.
Through Scripture, prayer, reflection, journaling, meditation, and experiential practices, you’ll have space to look back on your faith story, notice what has shaped your relationship with God, and consider what may be drawing you toward—or getting in the way of—a more intimate experience of Divine love.
Allow for Curiosity
There are no perfect answers to find and no single image of God you are expected to embrace. Bring your questions, your doubts, your experiences, and your longing. Be curious. Listen. Notice.
Your life has a sacred story. The Journey Within invites you to discover God within it—and open yourself more fully to the endless love that has been there all along.
This retreat is for you if:
You are yearning for a closer relationship with God, yet are unsure how to experience one.
You are noticing that your experience and image of God is different than it used to be. You want to get to know God in a new way.
You are seeking a place to bask in God’s mercy.

I am grateful for gaining insight into the personal relationship between God and myself. I looked back through my journal and noticed a theme in my reflections, particularly God as the breath of life. I find myself carrying that awareness with me as I go out into the world, so for that I am quite grateful! Thank you fellow participants for the deep, heartfelt conversations through your posts. I learned so much from you! - Cathy P., MN

Themes & FAQ’s
This online retreat is created to be flexible and meaningful for the person who wants to take this as a self-paced, private experience and for the person who wants to share in community over the course of six weeks.
Themes
-
The Journey Within is a mystical title, for sure. Mystics and theologians through the millennia have experienced and written about this spiritual journey as a process of growing closer to your true self and closer to God. The journey within invites you into the core of your being, that dynamic and beautiful space where you and God reside as one.
-
This week invites you to a biblical reflection on mercy. Take a look at how God reveals God's self to Moses in Exodus 34:6. Think about this: At the moment God gives the biggest description of God's self, it is full of loving-kindness.
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed,
“The Lord, the Lord,
a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger,
and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
-
It may be hard to describe, know, or trust a being as mysterious and elusive as God. St. Augustine says, "If you understood him, it would not be God." This week is about offering several prompts to help you reflect through your unique experience and image of God.
-
Who am I? Who is God? These are the two questions — the two keys — that help us unlock the door to God's endless love. These questions are a lifelong journey of discovery towards oneness with God. This week, you will reflect on your true self: the place where you and God are one within the very center of your being. The closer you get to your authentic self, the closer you get to God.
-
From the moment of conception, God continues to breathe life into you each and every day. How connected do you feel to that breath of life? If you are going through a stressful, confusing, or dark time, you may feel disconnected. You may question if the Divine Breath is even with you anymore. (Where is God in the middle of this darkness?). Life starts with the most beautiful breath, and then you enter into a complicated world. Births and deaths, loves and losses, circumstances and responsibilities. These all make up a life story. Your life story. This week we will offer time and space for you to reflect on your faith timeline as a way to see how God has been with you all along.
-
Are you discovering new and expanded images and experiences that are resonating with you? God does not change. It is our image of God that does as we grow and experience life. How are you being called to an expanded experience or image of God? Allow this final week to be a time of reflection and review and see how God is calling you to draw closer to God’s endless love.
