To Awaken
A Reflection by Christine Jurisich
My new book is now available! Awakening to the Sacred: An Invitation to Live in the Flow of Infinite Love
Here is an excerpt:
I love the word “awaken” because it suggests an exciting opening, a hopeful discovery, and the promise of a new beginning. Yet here I am on my bedroom floor, surrounded by bags of clothes, pictures, and old home decor to donate. At this moment, awakening feels more overwhelming than exciting or hopeful.
Whenever I write something new, I enter into the subject personally so that what I write is authentic and from the heart. I often feel as if God calls me to write about the very subject with which I need the most help. Even so, I did not expect the awakening that unfolded while I was working on this book. Nor did I expect the sudden urge to empty my closets of all that symbolized what I’d discovered was weighing me down.
In the midst of my unveiling, the promised opening, discovery, and new beginning did not feel exciting or hopeful. I discovered layers of old narratives and fears I needed to shed before a deeper experience of the Sacred could be awakened and I could hear what I was called to write. I entered some dark corners of my heart, which required long stretches of silence and solitude along with journaling, reading, and conversations with my mentors and my spiritual director. As the inner releasing began, so did the clearing of my closets and home office. The physical items represented old expectations and sadness that I was ready to let go. With each filled bag I carried to the garage, I felt lighter and bolder. As I cleared space around me and within me, I was opening a space for the Sacred to work through me in a new way. An awakening begins with the courage to let go.
